About Aaron

I’m Aaron. Nice to meet you.

I started my career as a journalist and worked as a copywriter for numerous tech companies. I was also the founder and CEO of the tech startup Presscloud. Over time, I became increasingly curious about the impact of technology on society, which led me to change course.

Since then, I’ve been writing books and giving lectures on technology, productivity, and AI, making technology like AI more accessible to the general public. Marketers call this a purpose, but there’s a perfectly good Dutch word for it: a calling.

Mission

Digital technology is increasingly shaping our daily lives and the way organizations operate. My mission is to make technology understandable, tangible, and applicable for everyone. I’ve become a sought-after speaker, delivering lectures on technology across the country, and I’m often approached by media to provide insights on AI news. In recent years, sustainability and diversity have been brought to the forefront. I hope to achieve the same with the theme of technology. Whether it’s about screen time, productivity, or AI: we can use it much smarter. That’s what I strive for and why I never dread Monday mornings.

Method

My lectures can be described as stand-up tech philosophy, blending practical applications, humor, and ethical reflections. This way, attendees are inspired, informed, and entertained. By also addressing the less appealing sides of AI, even the most critical audiences are engaged. I always aim for a tailored approach, ensuring the lecture perfectly aligns with the expectations and knowledge level of the audience. I incorporate plenty of interaction and humor to keep the audience captivated until the very end. I often conclude my lectures with an AI quiz, making it an energetic opening for the program or a perfect segue to the closing reception.

Smart users

There’s a joke about software that I love to share during my lectures: which two professions call their customers users? That would be drug dealers and software developers. In fact, we are all users of digital technology. Technology seems to be getting smarter and smarter—just think of smartphones and artificial intelligence. AI, in particular, is in the spotlight. Almost every organization wants to “do something” with AI. That’s striking because AI is just one of many possible solutions. In other words, AI is a tool, not a goal. As long as we don’t forget that, we’ll have not only smart technology but also smart users. And that seems like a great goal to me.

Private life

I studied Dutch Language and Culture and took courses in Journalism, History, and Humanistics. I graduated as a political scientist, with my master’s thesis focusing on (the definition of) populism. I grew up with computers and, as a child, used to enter DOS commands just to play games. From an early age, I wrote stories, poems, and articles. In my current work as a writer and speaker on technology, these two aspects come together beautifully.
When I’m not working, I like to run a lap through the park, read a book by Rob van Essen, watch a play by De Warme Winkel, listen to Spinvis, or—hopefully—enjoy a piece of Dutch butter cake. One day, I hope to meet my childhood hero, Jari Litmanen.
